Funding for early years providers

Free Early Education funding for 2, 3 and 4-year olds (FEE 2,3,4)

Barnet funds the Free Early Education for all eligible 2, 3 and 4-year olds in the maintained, private voluntary and independent (PVI) sectors, registered childminders and children’s centres.

The Early Education and Childcare Statutory Guidance for Local Authorities from the Department for Education applies to the free entitlements for two, three and four-year olds for both the universal and extended entitlement.

Please note: From the 1st of September 2018, FEE providers will be paid monthly but still will submit their estimates termly in line with the Department for Education’s ‘Early education and childcare – statutory guidance for local authorities’.

The offer

The offer

up to 15 hours a week or 30 hours for eligible three and four-year olds.

Length of offer

38 weeks per financial year (570 or 1140 hours per annum)

Minimum hours per day

two and a half hours

Maximum hours per day

10 hours

Number  of providers

parents can use their free hours over a maximum of two participating providers in one day (these can be split between maintained and PVI providers)


not before 7am and after 7pm
