Supporting Good Practice

Early years settings within the private, voluntary and independent (PVI) sector across Barnet which are in receipt of Free Entitlement to Early Education (FEE) funding are entitled to support from Barnet's Early Years Settings Support Teams.

Barnet Early Years Standards Team

The Early Years Standards Team provides guidance, support and training across all early years sectors to raise quality and improve educational standards. This includes advice on organising an appropriate learning environment, assessment of children’s development and progress including the two year old progress check and preparation and action related to Ofsted inspections. The team works with all early years settings and childminders supporting children from birth to six-years-old. Support is given to all new settings, and then provided according to the level of need within settings.

The Area SENCOs in the Pre-school Inclusion Team promote early intervention and inclusive learning environments within each of Barnet’s private, voluntary and independent early years settings (PVIs). The team provide support to the SENCO in each setting in order to help her/him to carry out the SENCO role and duties in order to ensure that children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEN) can be fully included in all PVI early years settings.

The team offers regular consultation visits as well as INSET and central training on a variety of SEN and inclusion themes.

The Pre-school Inclusion Team work closely with colleagues in the Early Years Standards Team, Pre-school Learning Alliance, Pre-school Teaching Team and the Specialist Provision Team. They are able to offer joint consultation visits in order to support all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
