Barnet Healthy Packed Lunches Campaign

As part of the School Food Standards project, the Barnet Healthy Packed Lunch campaign seeks to assist with reducing the local prevalence of low quality, unhealthy packed lunches in schools.

Unlike school meals, there are no mandatory standards for packed lunches. Packed lunches are commonly reported to be low in fruit & vegetables and often high in saturated fat, sugar, and salt (4) (5). Locally, schools that focus on improving nutrition for their Healthy Schools London award, observe issues at baseline with the quality of packed lunches upon audit. In addition, a key finding from the Barnet school food evidence report was that school food leads stated that they found managing packed lunches one of the biggest challenges they faced when dealing with the school food environment.
